Abstract

Sustainable visible light-induced neutral dye degradation to benign products of CO2, H2O, NO3 ̶ , was achievedbyphotocatalyst Mn2O3/K2S2O8 combination in polluted water. In this photo, oxidative breakdown of dye, catalyticMn2O3 bixbyite with K2S2O8 system produced the prominent radicals OH- and SO4 2- that completely oxidizedthedye molecules up to 89.5 per cent without leaving the intermediate carcinogenic phenazine products to meet thesustainable development goal of clean water and sanitation. The photo-responsive catalyst Mn₂O₃nano sphereswas synthesized by one-pot solution combustion method using a 1:1.5 ratio of bi-fuel mixer of glucose andureaderivative with Mn (NO3)2H2O. It was characterized by PXRD, FESEM-EDX, UV-vis Spectro photometer and TGA. Optimization of the parameters’ studies revealed that a 0.50g/L Mn2O3 dose, 0.08g/L of K2S2O8 and 40 ppmneutral dye at a pH of 6 were suitable for the efficient neutral red dye photo degradation for 30min and followed pseudofirst order kinetics.
