SYNTHESIS, AND CRYSTAL STRUCTURE OF TRIMETHYLAMMONIUM 5-(5-CHLORO-2,4- DINITROPHENYL)- 2,6-DIOXO-1,2,3,6- TETRAHYDROPYRIMIDIN-4-OLATE
A family of derivatives of barbituric acid, barbiturates have a long history of medicinal use as a variety of sedatives, hypnotics, anti-epileptics, sleep aids, and muscle relaxants. They have also been used in anaesthesia and tomapbrain dysfunction prior to brain surgery. A novel stable carbanionic sigma complex(CSC) with excellent purityandyield was synthesised in this work by combining DCDNB: 1,3-dichloro-4,6-dinitrobenzene, barbituric acid: pyrimidine-2,4,6(1H,3H,5H)-trione, and ethanol as base. The new carbanionic sigma complex is the molecular salt (barbiturates). The compound has been characterised by IR, 1H NMR and 13C NMR. The proposed structure hasalso been confirmed by single-crystal XRD studies.
